Comparison of basalt fiber and carbon fiber reinforced concrete

Comparison of basalt fiber and carbon fiber sheet reinforced concrete structure

CFRP wrap column

At present, the more fiber-reinforced composite materials (FRP) used in engineering are carbon fiber (CFRP), glass fiber (GFRP) and aramid fiber (AFRP). Among them, CFRP has the most ideal mechanical properties and has the most applications in the engineering field, and the comprehensive cost is relatively economical. GFRP and AFRP are cheap, their mechanical properties are worse than CFRP, and some physical properties are not ideal, which affects their applications.

The continuous basalt fiber (BFRP for short) currently developed in China is an inorganic fiber material with good mechanical properties, high cost performance, and optimistic development prospects. The application research of basalt fiber in civil engineering is still very few. For the purpose of toughening, it is allowed to use part of basalt fiber in the way of mixing or adding layers, but it is not allowed to use basalt fiber composite material alone.

Through two studies: a comparative study on the flexural strengthening of CFRP and BFRP sheets, and a comparative study on the seismic strengthening of BFRP and CFRP sheets, the following conclusions were drawn

(1) The test shows that the tensile strength of BFRP material reaches 2300MPa, the elastic modulus reaches 105.6GPa, and its mechanical properties can fully satisfy engineering use.

(2) Both BFRP and CFRP in bending reinforcement can effectively improve the ultimate bearing capacity of members. In flexural reinforcement, CFRP has more advantages than BFRP. If CFRP is required for price considerations, attention should be paid to the reliable bonding of fiber and concrete and the anchoring of the ends.

(3) BF tow winding reinforced cylinder can significantly improve its shear capacity, ductility and energy dissipation capacity, and its various parameters are close to the reinforcement of CFRP cloth material, which proves that BF filament winding is effective for the seismic reinforcement of piers. Effectiveness and advantages.

(4) Continuous basalt fiber sheets provide a new FRP material for the reinforcement of concrete structures. It has a reinforcement effect similar to CFRP, and has the advantages of corrosion resistance, light weight, and convenient construction. It also has unique advantages such as low cost and low price, but its application in engineering has just started, and a lot of further research is needed.
